Mark Johnston > Many local festivals are held throughout Japan, especially in Spring and Fall. At the Hida Takayama festival, massive wheeled floats, some centuries old, are drawn through the town by teams of local residents. In the evening the floats are lit by lanterns.
Mark Johnston > Sunrise on Tokyo's Sumida River. The famous Sukiji fish market is the brightly-lit complex at left. The nearest bridge is the Kachidoki ["shout of victory"] Bridge, erected in 1940 to commemorate the battle of Lushun during the Russo-Japanese War.
