The city of Ito lies on the eastern coast of Japan's Izu Penninsula, part of Shizuoka Prefecture a couple of hours south of Tokyo by train. Since Japan lies on the eastern edge of its time zone, the sun comes up early - this photo was taken at 4 am.
On a day of excellent visibility in early February, the Tanzawa Mountains over 30 miles away in Kanagawa Prefecture are clearly visible on the other side of the darker-looking Cape Manazuru.
